HOP Win the Peter Mason Award
HOP are delighted to announce that we have won the Peter Mason Award for Engineering Excellence in Piers for our work on Cromer Pier!
HOP have worked on the Grade II listed Structure at Cromer Pier for well over two decades. HOP were first instructed by North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) to undertake a diving survey of the Pier Head. Following on from this, HOP were engaged to assist with the design for the revised lifeboat station in 1994.
In the years that followed, we have been involved in all sorts of work ranging from structural inspections, diving, repairs following storm/boat damage, tidal works, refurbishment campaigns, designs of new service platforms, re-decking works and assistance refurbishing the theatre building.
In 2017 we were asked to undertake a Principal Inspection of the Pier structure and sub-structure. This included assessment work and considered the longevity of the Pier against the challenges of time-dependent deterioration and climate change.
Cromer Pier is one of only five UK seaside pier’s with a full working theatre and was voted Pier of the Year in 2015!
We were honored to have been recommended by NNDC to apply for the Award, and were even more honored to have won!
This is some fantastic recognition for our hard working marine teams who understand the challenges working in this sort of exposed environment on a sensitive Grade II historic structure.
