Awards for Innovation
As HOP have a wide range of experience within the firm, it enables us to look at jobs in a different way, bringing ideas and methods from other sectors (i.e. maritime works) into land-based Civil Engineering, such as our extensive use of pre-casting and off-site manufacture.
We have now won the Institution of Civil Engineers’ Innovation Award twice; once for our unique drainage solution at Hurstpierpoint College and most recently in our role as Joint Engineer and Principal Project Manager for the British Airways i360. HOP designed a Temporary Port for the beach landings which enabled prefabricated components to be delivered directly to site. This saved 100’s of lorry movements to what is a busy city centre site, bringing benefits to project delivery and the wider community. HOP also developed an initiative to recycle excavated materials from the towers foundations to be put to a beneficial use in coast protection works further down the coast. A very environmentally friendly solution, which provided savings in cost and time on the project as well as bolstering flood defences for the general community.
