International Women in Engineering Day – 23rd June 2019
This International Women in Engineering Day, we would like to celebrate our own colleagues, especially for their ongoing assistance and attendance at career events locally to help inspire the next generation of Women in STEM positions.
Read Lily’s Story, our Graduate Marine Engineer:
By the time I was six I had decided that I wanted to be like my father, who is a builder and carpenter. He, amongst numerous other relatives, teachers, friends and mentors encouraged me to pursue my interests in Maths and Science. By 14, I found that I could combine these two loves and pursued a career in Engineering.
At 18, I was accepted onto an Apprenticeship Scheme with HOP, where I received nothing but respect, kindness and support from a new and ever-growing family of friends and mentors, who helped me achieve my dream at 24.
I hope that I will be able to encourage and inspire the next generation of young people, as I was, to have the ambition, courage and self-belief to achieve their own dreams.
